Hello Crafters! Welcome! Today's card shows you how to make more out of your sets - by Mirror Image Stamping! Its such fun and with a couple of simple tricks - easy too! I have used the ever-adorable Hello Bluebird stamps for this card - specifically the Rainy Day set to make two rainy day friends! The lovely girl with umbrella stamp can be used to create the illusion of two 'friends' when it is actually the same stamp but stamped in mirror image.
The background was created with Distress Oxide Inks Hickory Smoke, Pumice Stone, Tumble Glass and Salty Ocean on watercolour paper. The extra raindrops were stamped with Tumbled Glass. The images themselves were coloured with Copics.
Mirror Image Stamping:My technique
I have recently purchased an inexpensive silicone mat from Kmart Aus
- and cut this down using my t-ruler so that it fits into my full-sized misti It doesn't matter if a bit hangs over at the top like in my pic below.
Place your stamp where required onto the silicone mat, pick up with the door of your misti. Ink up your stamp. The ink I used today was my Versafine Black - I find this does work well for a darker image - but if you are colouring with copics, you will need to emboss it with clear embossing powder which is what I did for this card.
I inked and stamped the image 2 times onto the silicone mat to get good ink coverage, then placed my card piece into the corner of the misti snugly. Very gently press down over the back of the card & lift cleanly off the silicone. If you want the image darker (without moving anything) ink up again, stamp onto the silicone mat again and place your card snugly again in the corner of the misti over the stamped image. Lift carefully and cleanly off the silicone and viola! Mirror Image! I quickly then clear embossed my image.
This technique should give you a nice dark reverse image of your stamp! as I mentioned I find it works best with Versafine (I only have this or Memento to choose from and the Momento seems to dry too quickly) so I needed to clear emboss my images so I could colour them with my Copics without the ink smudging.
I stamped the girl normally and embossed this image also. Colouring the images differently gives the illusion of 2 separate stamps! Hope this inspires you to try Mirror Image Stamping!

You can just heat it to dry also and not use the clear emboss. I was taught to emboss after copic coloring because the embossing might ruin the marker. Super great idea of using the mat!
Thanks Jill 😁 the versafine still tends to ‘bleed’ with Copics if dry but not embossed - I had not heard of embossing & if ok for your Copics to colour afterwards - I’ll investigate 😁 there may be another ink that works well for mirror stamping that you don’t have to emboss & it’s alcohol ink safe - just used what I had 😁
